Every August, thousands of music lovers make their way down the hill into Gallagher Park for the Edmonton Folk Music Festival. Behind the counter of the Cloverdale Youth Concession, a group of young people from our neighbourhood spends the festival serving snacks, keeping lines moving, and putting in some long, busy shifts.
This year, their hard work is going further than ever.
The Cloverdale Youth Concession and the Cloverdale Community League are donating more than $2,600 to Edmonton’s Food Bank.
How it works
Every year, the youth who run the concession donate 10% of their profits to a charity they choose. And every year, the Cloverdale Community League matches that donation dollar for dollar, doubling the impact of their efforts.
This year, the youth chose Edmonton’s Food Bank. The Youth Concession contributed more than $1,300, and CCL matched it dollar for dollar, bringing the total to more than $2,600.
Why it matters
We love this tradition because the youth get to decide where the money goes. They earn it themselves at the counter, and then they pick a cause they care about. This year they picked an organization that helps feed families across our city, which is a pretty great choice.
Edmonton’s Food Bank supports people all over Edmonton, and every dollar makes a difference. We’re proud that some of that support started right here in Cloverdale, with our youth.
