Edmonton Public Library and the YMCA of Northern Alberta are partnering up to offer various online workshops on digital citizenship (one for families with elementary-aged kids in November, and one for families with teens in December) and safe online gaming (for all families).

Digital Citizenship for Kids

Thursday, November 18 from 6:00 – 7:30 pm,

This session is geared towards families with children aged 6 to 12.

Twenty-first-century kids are growing up during an
exciting time of technological advancement where the skill of digital citizenship is important to help kids learn, communicate and collaborate safely and responsibly.

Families will learn about being a good digital citizen in the
community. This includes having good online etiquette,
reporting and preventing cyberbullying, learning how to
protect private information, and being mindful of what is
shared with individuals and on social media.

Understanding Safe Online Gaming

Gaming provides a fun and challenging medium where youth can experience several social and cognitive benefits. The online gaming community presents an entire world where a child, teen or adult can interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds in a collaborative and fun environment. In this workshop, participants will discover how to safely participate in online gaming. Parents will better understand the benefits/risks of gaming, the online gaming community, gaming culture and be given tips on communicating with passionate young gamers.

This class is limited to 20 families. Registration is required.
